Intent

  • All children experience a different language and develop a love for learning a different language.
  • ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes.
  • The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across the primary phase. This will enable pupils to use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future language learning and also helping the children improve overall attainment in other subject areas.

Implementation

We implement this in school through a range of different strategies:

  • Children in KS2 are given a 30 – 45 minute lesson on one afternoon a week.
  • Children will learn a 6 week unit every half term and these will be different and progress as the children move up to Year 6.
  • Staff use Spanish greetings to do the register and children are encouraged to find new Spanish words outside of school.
  • Children will be practise reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish with the aim that they will have a good transition to secondary school where they will also learn Spanish.
  • Children experience Spanish culture such as dancing, cooking and History.MFL Cycle
